What do you know about the word "quiz"?

Did you know, that:

The first appearance of the word QUIZ is from 1784 and means an "odd person"?
Its later meaning is "to make fun of" or "to mock".
How it acquired its current meaning of "test" is unknown but it' s since 1867 in the USA.
The etymology of the word quiz is maybe from the Latin "Qui es" which means "Who are you?", there is also an English dialect verb "quiset", meaning "to question", but it's obvious that it is from the same root as the word "question".

I hope you'll find this info interesting and you'll share some other interesting facts with us.
